Despacito was a track from the year 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed track across the globe within the space of six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought attention back to the genre, but also to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs in 2016, compared with two for 2015. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. And in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars such as Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. In the year 2020, a few reggaeton artists were unhappy with the way the genre was shifting towards more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation looking to alter the course. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and various other genres was a typical method.
